Mom Journaling: Where Chaos & Charm Collide

Writing a journal about our own life is a release, or a fun stroll down memory lane, for some of us. But, what about our birth story, or how we fit into the picture of our own family? Wouldn’t you love to know how your Mom found out she was pregnant? Or, how you were adopted? Even knowing your own birth story, so you can some what get an idea of how you entered this world? I have been keeping a journal for each of my kids…and man, it has been so fun!

Birth Stories: From Chaos to Charm

Remember when you first held your baby in your arms? Whether it was a dramatic entrance or a calm arrival, those birth stories are the stuff of legends. From the frantic rush to the hospital to the hilarious antics in the delivery room, each birth tale is a rollercoaster ride of emotions and adrenaline. These are the beginning of your children’s life story! When they become parents for the first time, they will be grateful to have something relatable and something that creates an even deeper connection to their own family birth stories.

My firstborn's arrival? She was the one that set the example for the other two. Not that I am going to say it was easy (PAAAALLLLEEEEAAASSEEE!…Watermelon + tiny hole = a lot of labor!) But, she actually made it rather easy on me in comparison to some pretty dramatic birth stories.

In came #2! She almost didn’t wait to get in the delivery room…oh wait, she was delivered in prep that’s right! After my arm went numb from getting antibiotics pushed through an IV just in the nick of time, she came out on push 1.5…of course she is a theater kid!

The boy came last, but not in the slightest bit slow. He was determined to prove on the first day of his presence on earth, that he would be an insane wide receiver, by running out for the nurse to almost having to catch him! Kid was on the move, and no one was going to stop him.

These are the stories I have so meticulously detailed in my journals to give them one day. These stories follow the pregnancy stories I have also detailed as much as possible! These stories are a part of who they are, and will help them understand a deeper meaning of their existence one day.

The Importance of Capturing Moments

Now, why do we bother jotting down these wild tales of motherhood? Because, my friends, one day we'll forget. We'll forget the exact shade of their newborn skin, the sound of their first cry, and the way they looked at us like we hung the moon. We will forget the argument you had to have with your partner to make them believe you were in labor the first time! You will forget all the truly important details!

But thanks to our trusty mom journals, we have a front-row seat to the miracle of their lives. We can relive those priceless moments—the first smile, the first giggle, the first "I love you"—whenever we need a pick-me-up or a good laugh. And, some time down the road, we can relive those moments with our kids, and laugh and cry together!

Keeping It Real

Let's be real, though. Mom life isn't all sunshine and rainbows. There are sleepless nights, epic tantrums, and diaper blowouts that could rival a volcanic eruption. And you know what? Those moments deserve a place in our journals too. Because one day, we'll look back and laugh at the chaos, grateful for every messy, beautiful moment. So, share the stories about the screaming matches, or how you definitely don’t listen to them enough (hahaha-if I had a dollar!) But, also share all their accomplishments and milestones. All the things that we have forgotten from our childhood, are the things they will eventually forget too. So talk about the time they bit an apple and a tooth came out, or how they decided to try and become a stuntman off of a massive dirt mound and it didn’t work out the way they thought! Share the moments that made them laugh, and cry. You may be the only one that remember those moments now, but later, you can both look back on them together.

The Power of Connection

At the end of the day, mom journals are more than just a record of our children's lives; they're a testament to the unbreakable bond between mother and child. By capturing the chaos and charm of motherhood, we create a legacy of love that will stand the test of time.

Let’s pick up our pens and embrace the messy, magical journey of motherhood. Because when life hands us lemons (or dirty diapers), we'll turn them into lemonade—and jot down the recipe for future generations to enjoy. Cheers to the chaos, the charm, and the unforgettable moments that make motherhood the greatest adventure of all!
